The annual Ponty Big Bang fireworks display, organised by Pontypridd and Rhondda Roundtable, has been called off due to the park’s condition. Typically attracting hundreds of families, the event raises funds for local causes. A spokesperson for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council acknowledged the challenges posed by the weather and assured ongoing efforts to restore the cricket grounds to their usual standards by April 2025. Alternative options were proposed for the fireworks display, but organisers opted to cancel this year’s event.
The cancellation announcement on the organisers’ Facebook page cited the field as “unusable.” The event typically features a fairground and draws families from across Pontypridd and the Rhondda Valleys. While disappointed by this year’s cancellation, organisers anticipate the event’s return in 2025. Despite efforts to accommodate the event, the decision to cancel was made in light of the park’s unsuitable state.
