Full list of Welsh beaches where dogs are allowed again from October 1, 2024

A recent change brings good news for dog owners in Wales as the ban on dogs at numerous Welsh beaches has been lifted from October 1, 2024. The annual ban, in effect from May 1 to September 30, had affected beaches across all coastal counties of Wales, from Conwy to Pembrokeshire. Local councils enforced the bans using various methods, including fines for violators. Guide dogs were exempt from these restrictions, but as of October 1, dogs are once again welcome on many shores across Wales.

Some of the beaches where dogs are now allowed include those in Anglesey like Beaumaris, Benllech, and Llanddwyn, in Bridgend like Rest Bay and Coney Beach, and in Carmarthenshire like Pendine and Cefn Sidan. Similarly, in Conwy, Rhos on Sea Beach and Colwyn Bay Beach now welcome dogs, among others, while Ceredigion also allows dogs on beaches like Mwnt and Penbryn.

In Denbighshire, designated dog exercise areas were set up during the ban period, while Gwynedd now permits dogs on beaches like Aberdyfi and Fairbourne. Pembrokeshire has lifted bans at Tenby north beach and Whitesands, with partial bans at other locations. Swansea welcomes dogs at Bracelet Bay, Swansea Bay, and other areas, and the Vale of Glamorgan now allows dogs at Whitmore Bay and Penarth seafront.

These changes mean dog owners can once again enjoy walks on these beautiful beaches with their four-legged companions. Make sure to check local signs and regulations to ensure a pleasant experience for all visitors.
