However, while taking a break near his workplace on Penarth Road, he was struck by a car driven by 27-year-old Savannah Roberts, who callously fled the scene, leaving Stephen severely injured.
The injuries Stephen sustained were so severe that doctors had to amputate his leg. Roberts attempted to cover up her actions by selling her car, but was eventually linked to the hit and run after being caught driving through a red light. She has since been sentenced to three years and nine months in jail for causing serious injury by careless driving and perverting the course of justice.
