A man in Wales has been sentenced to jail for assaulting his partner by beating her with a scaffolding pole and strangling her. Barry Jones, 44, from Caernarfon, received a 25-month sentence for assault causing actual bodily harm and a 17-month sentence for intentional strangulation. The court heard that the victim felt isolated and lonely when she moved to north Wales. The first incident occurred when Jones accused her of theft. He punched her in the chest, hit her with a metal pole, and prevented her from leaving the home. The woman suffered injuries that made it difficult for her to walk.
Prosecutors revealed that Jones even locked the bedroom door to prevent the woman from leaving. In another incident, he grabbed and squeezed her neck, leading her to seek refuge at a friend’s flat where she was frightened by Jones’s continuous accusations. The victim reported that Jones had stopped taking his medication for mental health issues. Police were called, and Jones was arrested. The woman, in a statement, shared how the assault caused her to suffer epileptic fits, forcing her to move away and face financial struggles.
Jones, represented by Anna Price, expressed remorse for his actions. He had a history of heart issues and schizophrenia, for which he was currently under medication. The judge, His Honour Rhys Rowlands, imposed jail sentences and issued a ten-year restraining order preventing Jones from contacting the victim. Despite facing challenges, the victim sought justice and safety from further harm.
