A man punched and kicked two women and half-stripped one of his victims after they didn’t provide drugs to his friend, a court has heard. Karl Young, along with Pawel Grzybowski and Leanne Rees, cornered the females in a block of flats’ stairwell and beat them up. Swansea Crown Court noted the victims were not experienced drug dealers and condemned Young for dominating them with physical force. One defendant did not appear for sentencing, resulting in an arrest warrant.
On March 2, Grzybowski met two women in Swansea for drugs, but they didn’t return with the substances. Young and Grzybowski then assaulted the women in a search for the money, during which Young punched, kicked, and removed the trousers of one victim. CCTV footage aided in identifying and arresting the defendants. The victims, despite being known to the police, did not engage with officers beyond their initial statements.
Grzybowski pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm (ABH), while Young pleaded guilty to two counts of ABH. Rees, who also pleaded guilty to ABH, failed to attend court. Grzybowski received a suspended prison sentence due to his role in the assault, while Young was sentenced to 20 months in prison. The judge acknowledged Young’s remorse but emphasized the severity of the assault.
Grzybowski’s barrister mentioned his client’s struggles, including the loss of his mother and substance abuse. The court considered Grzybowski’s remorse and sentenced him to 22 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months. An arrest warrant was issued for Rees, who did not attend the hearing. The court stressed the victims were not hardened criminals and imposed appropriate sentences based on the defendants’ actions and remorse.
