Marks & Spencer is set to create 11,000 new jobs over Christmas, a thousand more than last year, reported Wales Online. The retailer is boosting its festive recruitment to provide extra support in stores across the UK. The additional customer service staff will assist with tasks such as serving customers, stocking shelves, and helping with the food-to-order service. Roles are available in both the food and clothing/home divisions, with recruitment starting on October 9 and new staff joining from mid-November.
Sacha Berendji, the operations director at M&S, emphasised the importance of store colleagues in delivering a magical Christmas shopping experience to customers. He highlighted that this year, even more colleagues are being hired to ensure closer customer engagement. With a variety of roles and flexible working patterns on offer, interested individuals are encouraged to visit the M&S careers website to apply. The firm also enlists support centre employees over the busy festive season, with each staff member spending seven days in-store per year, including four days leading up to Christmas.
Last year, support centre staff dedicated 103,000 hours to assisting in stores during the Christmas period, demonstrating a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service during the holiday rush. Marks & Spencer’s efforts to expand its workforce for the Christmas season align with its goal of enhancing the shopping experience for customers and meeting increased demand during this busy period.
The announcement of the 11,000 new jobs at Marks & Spencer comes at a critical time when many businesses are ramping up their recruitment efforts to prepare for the holiday season. Customers can expect to receive even more support and service from the retailer’s expanded team of dedicated staff members as they shop for festive treats and gifts.
