A mum received calls from concerned friends after her obituary was accidentally published online. Faye Finaro, 39, was shocked to see her name and photo appear in the obit section of the Mansfield Chad with an option to send flowers to her supposed bereaved family. She only noticed it when a friend phoned her to make sure she wasn’t actually dead after spotting the page on the “Legacy” section of the website.
After reassuring her friends with a post on Facebook that she was very much alive, Faye emailed the website to inform them of the mistake. The beauty business owner speculated that a post on the website’s ‘celebration’ section about her new business in 2022 might have been mixed up with the legacy section. Finding humour in the situation, Faye from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, remarked, “I might have 30 days of flowers coming! It was a standard day in my life when I got a call from a friend asking me if I was alive.”
Faye added that her friend was quite concerned, and after she posted about it on Facebook, many people found it hilarious, including her son. Faye shared, “I believe what’s happened is there must have been some crossover with the celebrations page they were doing, and all the photos and captions were left in the database before they were outsourced to Legacy. God knows how long it was there! Anyway, it was great when they told me they’d removed it – I’m not dead anymore!”
Recently winning an award for her business, Faye’s friend stumbled upon the obituary page while searching for a news story on the win last Tuesday. A screenshot of the site displayed a picture of Faye with the headline ‘Faye Finaro Obituary,’ along with an option to ‘send flowers.’ Faye was informed that the obituary might take up to 30 days to disappear from search results. A spokesperson for Legacy stated, “We are indeed aware of the issue and we are in correspondence with Ms. Finaro about the matter.”
The incident, which began with concerned phone calls from friends, has now become a quirky anecdote for Faye, highlighting the importance of accurate website content and the potential mix-ups that can occur in online publications.
