In the lead-up to Christmas and New Year, bus travel will be free in Swansea on 19 specific days. Starting from November 16, residents can travel for free on weekends, Monday December 23, Christmas Eve, and from December 27 until 7pm on New Year’s Eve. The offer applies to routes starting and ending within the Swansea Council area, including places like Gorseinon, Pontarddulais, Gower, and Morriston. This initiative aims to encourage more people to use public transport and reduce the number of cars on the roads.
The Swansea Council leader, Rob Stewart, highlighted that this is the fourth consecutive year of providing free transport during the festive period and the largest offer to date. He emphasized the importance of supporting residents during the expensive Christmas period by enabling them to save money on travel costs and experience everything Swansea has to offer. The council’s cabinet member for environment and infrastructure, Andrew Stevens, stressed the significance of increasing passenger numbers on public transport in Swansea. The goal is to introduce more individuals to bus travel, ultimately benefiting public transport operators and the community.
