Tourist’s dream holiday at luxury resort ‘ruined’ after ‘consuming contaminated food or drink’ – Wales Online

A holidaymaker’s luxury vacation at a five-star resort abroad turned into a nightmare after contracting a gastric illness believed to be from contaminated food or drink. John Cross and his wife, Janet, paid £3,490.44 to celebrate their 45th anniversary at the all-inclusive Paloma Pasha resort in Izmir, Turkey. However, just five days into the trip, John began experiencing severe stomach pains, diarrhoea, nausea, and headaches, requiring him to be placed on an IV drip at a local medical centre.

John’s symptoms persisted, leading him to return to the medical centre where he was informed of a bacterial infection likely caused by consuming contaminated food or drink. Back in the UK, John, a service engineer, sought medical advice and was also diagnosed with high blood pressure. The illness disrupted the holiday plans for John, Janet, and their friends, who were all affected during the trip.

Reflecting on his stay from August 19 to September 2 the year prior, John observed improper handling of food at the hotel, with items not being stored at appropriate temperatures. Furthermore, he noted the presence of cats throughout the resort, including one near death in the pool area. Seeking answers and assurances, John has enlisted the expertise of international serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the circumstances.

Sarita Sharma, the lead lawyer on the case, expressed concern over John’s ordeal and urged others who may have experienced similar issues at the resort to come forward. She highlighted the seriousness of gastric illnesses and the potential long-term health risks associated with such conditions. TUI, the tour operator through which the holiday was booked, has been contacted for comment on the matter.

The couple’s legal representatives emphasised the importance of addressing the health and safety implications of the incident to prevent similar incidents in the future. With ongoing investigations, John and Janet aim to gain clarity and closure regarding the circumstances that marred what was meant to be a joyous occasion.
