Mark and Rosalind Causey had a dream of moving to Pembrokeshire for a long and happy retirement, finally finding their dream home in 2023 after intending to return to Wales from Suffolk, where they had been living for most of their adult lives. However, tragedy struck unexpectedly when Mark collapsed on April 30, 2024, revealing an undetected brain cancer. His wife, Ros, who was looking after her mum at the time near Port Talbot, contacted the police after not hearing from him. They found him collapsed at home, leading to a devastating diagnosis that gave him just weeks to live.
Despite the shocking turn of events, Mark was able to spend his final days at home with the support of the Paul Sartori Foundation, a hospice at home service in Pembrokeshire. Mark, a passionate biker and marathon runner, fought the aggressive brain cancer for 19 weeks before passing away on September 17 at the age of 61. Ros paid tribute to her beloved husband, describing their deep love and respect for each other throughout their 27-year marriage.
For Ros, the last years spent almost exclusively in each other’s company were the closest and best they had. Their move to Wales reignited their love, with special rituals like ‘date night’ at the laundrette becoming cherished memories. Despite the heartbreaking loss, Ros expressed gratitude for fulfilling Mark’s wish to spend his final days at home surrounded by his family. Friends and family came together to support them during Mark’s illness, highlighting the love and unity within their community.
As Mark’s funeral approaches, Ros plans a fitting tribute to his passion for biking, arranging for a Hayabusa hearse to take him on his final journey from Creselly Arms to Narberth Crematorium. She invites fellow bikers to join them in making enough noise for Mark to hear as he embarks on his last ride. Ros hopes to raise funds in appreciation of the support they received from the hospice and healthcare teams during Mark’s illness.
