A grandmother’s family holiday ended in tragedy when she was attacked by her partner on the Isle of Man. Jillian Hughes, 57, from Kirkby, was visiting the island with her family, including her granddaughter when the incident occurred outside the Palace Hotel in Douglas. The altercation led to Jill being fatally injured by her partner, John Meadows, 53. The attack took place around 9.20pm, resulting in Jill’s death despite efforts to save her in hospital.
John Meadows, residing in Verney Crescent, Allerton, was sentenced to five years and eight months in prison after pleading guilty to manslaughter at Douglas Courthouse on Friday, October 11. Detective Superintendent Steve Maddocks of Isle of Man Constabulary expressed the family’s profound loss, emphasizing the irreplaceable gap left by Jill’s untimely death.
