A young mum from Wales, Nikita Jones, recently received devastating news after discovering a lump two months after giving birth to her daughter, Vienna. Last summer, Nikita noticed a lump between her breasts, initially assumed to be an abscess. However, when antibiotics were ineffective, she was referred to the breast clinic. In August 2023, she was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of sarcoma, a soft tissue cancer, making her one of only two individuals in the UK with this condition.
After being diagnosed, Nikita underwent surgery involving a double mastectomy and the removal of part of her chest plate. Following the surgery, she received proton beam therapy treatment in London. By March this year, Nikita was informed she was cancer-free. However, subsequent symptoms, including leg pain, swelling, and chest infections, led to the discovery of a shadow on her lung. A CT scan revealed the cancer had returned, with doctors declaring that no further treatment options were available. Without treatment, she was given six months to live, which could extend to 16 months with chemotherapy.
Friends and family rallied behind Nikita, with a GoFundMe page raising £3,000 within 24 hours to help create lasting memories with her daughter. Despite the heartbreaking news, Nikita remains resilient and has planned a celebration to cherish moments with loved ones. The support from her family, friends, and community has been instrumental during this challenging time.
