The inquest into the death of Thomas Kingston, the husband of Lady Gabriella Kingston, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, will investigate whether his “state of mind was affected by medication”. Mr Kingston was tragically found dead with a catastrophic head injury and a gun nearby at his parents’ home in the Cotswolds on February 25. The 45-year-old financier had married Lady Gabriella at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, in 2019, with dignitaries including Queen Elizabeth II in attendance.
During a recent pre-inquest review at Gloucestershire Coroner’s Court, it was revealed that the Kingston family had been advised of a potential link between medication Mr Kingston had taken and his state of mind prior to his death. The court was informed that the investigation should encompass not only the cause of death but also Mr Kingston’s mental state influenced by medication.
The senior coroner for Gloucestershire, Katy Skerrett, emphasized the importance of considering a recent prescription in the inquiry. The court heard that Mr Kingston’s parents attended the hearing, with his father set to give evidence on behalf of the family. Notably, Lady Gabriella did not attend the hearing.
Mr Kingston’s unexpected and impulsive death, described as lacking pre-planning despite aspirations for the future, deeply impacted his family. Both the King and Queen offered their support and condolences to Lady Gabriella, acknowledging the profound loss. Lady Gabriella is a writer, singer-songwriter, and contributing editor, while Mr Kingston was a director at Devonport Capital with experience in diplomatic missions.
The coroner aims to conclude Mr Kingston’s inquest before the end of the year to provide closure for the family. While the official date for the inquest is pending scheduling, all parties involved have been requested to confirm their availability for early December.
